This is an abstract piece I made using Photoshop. I wanted to make it look traditional so I cheated a bit by using some of Photoshops filter settings. I like my color choices with this one and I figured it would make for a nice logo.

I enjoy pixel art a lot, so I made this scene which could potentially be incorporated into a video game. If I ever scrounge up the time I may continue working on this project.

After listening to a lot of reuploads of Bob Ross broadcasts to help me go to sleep I decided to actually follow one of his painting tutorials in a digital format.

HOURGLASS

This was one of my first paintings in Photoshop. I first modeled an hourglass in Blender and then imported it into Photoshop to capture the lighting and proportions accurately. The painting is monochromatic, which helped create the atmosphere I wanted while keeping the shading simple. The man in the hat was added last. In the final stages, I noticed that the man looked miniature and decided to add scale by adding columns to the hourglass, making it appear more as a building.

Hard surface shading was fun to learn for this one. After reviewing it I feel I could make the robots frame a bit more metallic and reflective.

This was my first illustration in Photoshop. It's an astronaut with a boombox. I chose to keep it monochrome to simplify the process. This painting was created for the cover of a humorous book I made during my digital illustration class. The book is a parody of Lord of the Rings, and I believe the cover illustration captures that well. It's also the first (and possibly the last) depiction of myself in any of my art.

This is a logo I created for a group of my friends in a band. They had very specific ideas for what they wanted, and they were pleasantly surprised when I revealed the final design. I also printed a bunch of stickers featuring this logo for them, making this piece the first artwork of mine that I've ever given out to people.

One of the main tasks of 3D modelers in the entertainment industry is creating 3D versions of 2D drawings, which can later be easily animated and rendered for use in games, movies, advertisements, and more. This 3D model was inspired by a specific drawing from another artist. Unfortunately, after extensively searching online, I couldn't find the original artist who inspired me to create this 3D character.

A low-poly scene of a western town using a tile-based system. I first made the tiles for this scene and then pieced them all together (like Legos) to make a scene. The typography at the top is also my own. However, I didn't have photoshop at the time so I used Blender to create it.

Surprisingly, this was a project for my U.S. history class. My teacher, who was also the baseball coach, didn't believe I made it, but I clarified that I did and ended up getting a good grade. Technically, this is also one of my first graphic design pieces, as I hadn’t yet incorporated text and formatting into my art.

Originally, I hadn't planned on creating a day and night comparison of this scene. However, after adding the glow from the lava flowing out of the volcano, I realized the day scene would look better at night. I didn’t want to scrap the day version, so I decided to upload both as a comparison.

At this point in my artistic journey, I was obsessed with 3D art and low-poly stylization. I wanted to create a modular, tile-based world where everything could click together. So, I designed this scene of a gas station in a post-apocalyptic setting where koalas have taken over the world.

This is another one of my early 3D art creations using Blender. Tanks have always fascinated me, and while working on a magazine about tanks for my graphic design class, I decided to create a low-poly model inspired by a WWI tank. This was also my first time messing around with the physics aspect of Blender to add the fog.

I decided to do a challenge put on by a popular 3D artist named Blender Guru (or Andrew if you don't feel like saying all that). I think my rendition of the challenge looks realistic, but it's a bit underexposed. If I had to make a change, I would simply adjust the exposure in Photoshop.

This was my final project in my 3D design class, where I was tasked with creating a model of an in-store display designed to grab customers' attention. I chose to create a retro-style PlayStation display. I think it would actually attract a lot of gamers today, especially with the nostalgia surrounding old games.

This 3D render was created for an assignment in my 3D design class, where we were tasked with designing a room with a specific theme in orthographic perspective. It's a popular form of 3D art and was a lot of fun to work on. This version is unpainted because of the extensive detail and numerous models I created, and given the time constraints, I wasn't able to complete the painting portion of this project.

I created this drawing to study the anatomy of a man standing upright. At some point, I realized I had captured more detail than necessary, simply because I had plenty of space to work with. It became a bit of a trap, spending too much time on details instead of focusing on the basic values. Nonetheless, I'm happy with how it turned out.

This is a sculpture commonly used by art students to study how light falls on the head and face. I felt that I was able to draw it accurately in terms of proportion and value, which motivated me to start drawing more naturalistic faces later on.

For this drawing of a lionfish, I started with a sketch to establish the proportions, then built up the values using thousands of tiny dots of ink. I don't think I'll make art in this style again as it took a great amount of time.

For my second oil pastel drawing, I wanted to experiment with rendering something like fur, so I chose to draw a bird. The easy blending of the oil pastels, combined with my love for creatures, made this one enjoyable to create.

As a kid, my grandparents had paintings of strange, abstract figures on their walls. I later discovered they were by a Spanish artist named Ángel Botello. I fell in love with his style, likely due to my early exposure to it. My grandparents gave me a book about him, and after flipping through many pages of paintings featuring nude women, I finally found the more abstract style that reminded me of those paintings. I decided to study how he painted, and the best way to do that was by copying his work myself. At the time, I wasn’t painting in oils, so I chose to use oil pastels instead. In the end, I learned a lot about how he decided to portray color and value.

I'm not typically into abstract art, unless it's by a specific artist. However, for an assignment from one of my art teachers, I had to create an abstract portrait of someone. I chose to visually represent what I thought of a person, rather than their actual physical characteristics. Overall, I consider it a great piece of abstract art because it's selfish (only I can truly understand it), and it's also a bit lazy, as it didn't take me much time to create.

For my second oil painting, I wanted to create a portrait. The strong contrast in values across the character's face helped me render the form, while his blank, lifeless expression made the process of capturing emotion less challenging. This was an easy one.

This was my third oil painting. It was done on a much larger canvas than I had previously used, which made painting more loosely easier. I was drawn to the beauty of the lighting in the reference photo and, perhaps ambitiously, decided to make a painting of it. As a beginner, it took a tremendous amount of time, but I learned a lot in the process so I don't regret it.
Fun Fact: I don't actually know where this painting is or who has it. I traded it for a sandwich while walking back from one of my classes during my junior year. It was a good sandwich and I was hungry so, I don't regret it.

This is a cartoon of my pet rat, Walter, drawn in colored pencil. He used to overeat, so I put him on a rat diet (a change he didn’t enjoy at the time.) However, he’s now much fitter and happier! I may have been a bit unexperienced in drawing with colored pencils at the time, but I'm happy with this one nevertheless.
